As part of, We Are, a portrait project featuring 20 WH!P Collective (Women of the Hunter in Photography) members turn their lenses towards fellow female and non-binary creatives to highlight the cultural, social, and creative benefits that a thriving and diverse artistic community bring to our city and region.

Carefully woven throughout every component of the Foong sister’s iconic clothing label — High Tea with Mrs Woo — love and creativity is gently stitched into thoughtful slow fashion. As an integral part of the local community, Rowena, Juliana, and Angela form a formidable combined creative force here in Awabakal country. Not unlike the very basis of their business name, with Mrs Woo embodying the synergy of women who have inspired, or who continue to inspire the three sisters; where that love and respect is returned and tripled.

While their design practice is a circular process that encourages resources to be understood and valued at every chapter of life, it is also a concept that ties tightly to their own connected living. Just as the art of kintsugi uses gold to intentionally transform, joining pieces together in unique ways; so too, does Ro, Jules, and Ange. Gently weaving golden familial threads of heartfelt values, global responsibility, and kinship throughout the extended community.

By celebrating the Mrs Woo sisterhood, we consciously put value on creativity, threading some of our own stories, into a more meaningful, connected, and resilient community.

We Are is a multi-location multimedia photographic experience highlighting creative women of Newcastle, commencing on Wednesday March 8th, International Women’s Day, culminating in a celebration event at The Lock-Up on Friday March 24th.
